Baseline health checks before medication

Baseline health checks are required before we start ADHD medication. They confirm that medication is safe to begin and give us a reference point for ongoing monitoring.

What is checked

  • Blood pressure and pulse, baseline measurements.
  • Blood tests, including liver and kidney function.
  • An electrocardiogram (ECG) if you have a personal or family history of heart disease.
  • Weight and, for children, height.

How to arrange them

Your GP can usually carry out these checks at no cost to you. We provide a clear request list to take to your GP. If your GP is unable to help, we can arrange the checks privately and let you know the cost in advance.

Why they matter

ADHD medication can affect blood pressure and heart rate. Baseline measurements let us spot any changes early. The checks are quick, low-burden, and central to safe prescribing.
