How CYP assessments differ from adult assessments
The clinical question is the same: is this picture best explained by ADHD? The way we get there differs in important ways for children and young people.
Multiple sources of information
For adults, we draw heavily on the person’s own account, supported by collateral history where possible. For children, we depend on multiple voices: parents or carers, the child themselves, and where possible the school.
Tools and structure
CYP-appropriate rating scales such as the Conners scales replace adult-specific tools like DIVA-5. The clinical interview is paced for the child’s attention and language.
Recommendations
Adult reports focus on workplace, study, and personal life. CYP reports include school, family, and developmental recommendations alongside any treatment options.
Family-centred care
Parents or carers play an active role from start to finish. We make sure you leave with a clear picture, practical next steps, and an open line to our team if you have follow-up questions.
