If your GP declines shared care

If your GP declines a Shared Care Agreement, your treatment continues. You simply receive your medication on a private prescription through Lighthouse Pathways.

What this means in practice

  • You continue to receive prescriptions from your Lighthouse Pathways clinician.
  • You pay the pharmacy for the medication itself, at the private cost rather than the NHS prescription cost.
  • You continue with annual reviews through Lighthouse Pathways.
  • You retain access to all standard care, including dose adjustments and clinical support.

Your options

You can ask your GP for the specific reason for declining and whether the position might change. You can register at a different practice if appropriate, though we do not recommend changing GP for this reason alone. You can ask your local Integrated Care Board about shared care policy in your area.

Useful to know

Some GP practices follow local prescribing committee guidance that limits shared care for ADHD medication. This is a policy issue, not a personal one. Your private treatment remains valid and unaffected.
