The titration process

Titration is the process of gradually adjusting your medication dose to find the optimal level: enough benefit, with manageable side effects.

How it works

You start at a low dose and increase slowly under medical supervision. After each adjustment, you and your clinician review the effect: how it feels, what is better, what is harder, and any side effects.

How long it takes

Most adults reach a stable dose within four to twelve weeks. Children may take longer because dosing is weight-related and growth matters.

What we look for

  • Improvement in attention, organisation, and impulse regulation.
  • Manageable side effects, with no concerning symptoms.
  • Stable blood pressure and heart rate at each review.
  • Sleep, appetite, and mood changes within expected ranges.

Your role during titration

Track your experience between appointments. A short daily note on energy, focus, side effects, and sleep helps us tune the dose. Honest feedback is more useful than tidy summaries.

After titration

Once your treatment is stable, we move to annual reviews. Where possible, we arrange a Shared Care Agreement with your GP for ongoing prescribing.
